Merchant License Agreement
Merchant Club members may make and sell finished physical 3D prints of Eligible Models during their paid term. Digital files are never for resale or redistribution.
Version 1.0. Issued October 16, 2026. Applies to the Patreon Merchant Club.
This is the full text of the agreement. A PDF copy is linked at the end of the page.
1. Parties and licensed models
BUILTONLAYERS LLC (we or us) offers this license to the purchaser of the Merchant Club subscription (you). If the subscriber is a business, the license belongs to that identified business. If the subscriber is an individual, it belongs to that individual. It does not separately license subsidiaries or other businesses.
An Eligible Model is any digital model that BUILTONLAYERS LLC uploads and makes available under the Merchant Club tier on its official Patreon page. All models made available in that tier are included. A model stored in a private preparation folder, or offered only outside that tier, is not included merely because it exists elsewhere in our catalog.
This agreement grants only rights that BUILTONLAYERS LLC owns or is authorized to license. Merchant Club eligibility does not itself clear third-party brands, logos, characters, artwork, fonts or other assets. Permission for third-party rights is included only to the extent we are authorized to grant it.
2. Permitted printing
You receive a nonexclusive, nontransferable license to make and sell finished physical 3D prints of Eligible Models during your Paid Term, subject to these terms and the existing-order exception in section 6.
During the Paid Term, you may print Eligible Models, create and maintain listings, accept orders, and sell finished physical prints online or in person, including at farmers markets. You may choose your printer, slice files, select filament and colors, change ordinary print settings, add slicer-generated supports, and scale models. Where supplied, you may arrange and duplicate characters and bases for a finished layout.
Substantive design changes require our written permission. Examples include remodeling geometry, adding or replacing artwork, creating derivative models, or combining the model with another design. Routine preparation described above does not require separate approval. Check fit and function after any scaling or print-setting change.
3. Digital files and other users
You may retain private working copies and backups for your permitted use. You may not sell, share, give away, redistribute, upload for others, or sublicense the digital files. This includes 3MF and STL files, extracted geometry, modified files and printer-ready files that reproduce the model. A customer buying a physical print receives no right to the digital design files.
You may not transfer this license or grant another person or business independent printing rights.
4. Design ownership and presentation
Ownership of the models remains with BUILTONLAYERS LLC or the applicable rights holder. You may choose your own titles for the physical products you sell; you do not have to retain our model or edition names. A product title does not change which model is licensed or expand your permissions. Do not use a title that falsely claims design authorship or official endorsement, or infringes third-party rights.
Merchants must create and use their own product images. You may not reuse our photographs or preview images. This agreement does not grant use of our logos or permission to imply an official partnership or endorsement.
5. Paid term and cancellation
Your Paid Term is the period of Merchant Club coverage paid for and shown in your Patreon billing and membership records. Commercial permission starts when payment for that term succeeds. The price, billing interval and renewal information are shown on Patreon at enrollment. Personal-only, free or trial access does not by itself grant this commercial license.
Under Patreon subscription billing, canceling renewal does not end a term already paid for: permission continues until that Paid Term expires. A downgrade takes effect for commercial licensing when your paid Merchant Club coverage ends. Confirm the actual end date in your membership records; do not assume every term ends on the last day of a calendar month.
Merchant rights continue through any period already paid for, including if renewal is canceled or billing is paused during that period. The cutoff is the official end of your paid Merchant Club membership, as shown in your membership and billing records. A temporary inability to load or view the tier page does not itself end an otherwise paid membership, and lingering technical access does not extend an expired one.
6. When the paid term expires
You may create listings, accept orders and make sales until your Paid Term officially ends. At that point, remove or deactivate listings for prints made from Eligible Models and stop taking new orders or making new sales until paid Merchant Club membership resumes. The same cutoff applies at farmers markets and other in-person events, including on the last day of membership.
Orders accepted before your Paid Term ends may be completed and finalized afterward. You may perform the printing and fulfillment needed to complete those existing orders. This exception does not allow new orders, general restocking or new sales after expiry. Finished stock and models discontinued from Patreon remain subject to the sales pause.
Downloaded files do not automatically lock or disappear. This agreement does not add DRM or require remote access to your device. Keeping a file does not extend commercial permission. Any personal use that is allowed under the separate personal-use license remains subject to that license; this agreement does not require you to destroy files or finished prints.
7. Relationship to the personal use license
The personal-use license supplied with a model remains the baseline permission. This agreement adds the physical-print permissions expressly allowed here for Eligible Models, subject to the paid-term, pause and existing-order provisions. Its limited commercial grant controls over a conflicting personal-only restriction for that use. Other restrictions, including limits on digital distribution and substantive edits, remain in place.
8. Digital products and print results
All digital files and download packages are digital products only. They include no physical prints, hardware, switches, filament or other physical components. Any required physical components must be obtained separately.
Print results depend on factors outside our control, including filament type and condition, printer calibration, slicing settings, orientation, assembly and the conditions in which a print is used. BUILTONLAYERS LLC does not guarantee the quality or durability of prints made from its digital files.
BUILTONLAYERS LLC makes no claim that prints made from its digital files are certified or compliant with health or safety standards. A file, preview image or printing recommendation is not a certification of a finished print.
You are responsible for assessing your finished products, testing fit and function, describing them accurately, and meeting the legal requirements that apply to your manufacturing and sales. Do not claim health or safety certification or compliance without an appropriate basis. Nothing in this agreement excludes or limits rights, warranties, remedies, duties or liability that applicable law does not permit the parties to exclude or limit.
9. Customers and sales channels
You are responsible for your own customer orders, fulfillment and communications. Describe your finished products accurately and use your own product images.
Each sales channel has its own rules. This license does not guarantee acceptance by Etsy or any other marketplace. Confirm that your specific product and listing meet the channel rules before listing. Obtain separate rights for any third-party content used in your listings.
10. Written permissions and future changes
Request additional permission through BUILTONLAYERS LLC on Patreon, identifying the model, version and intended use. Keep the written response with your records.
Future changes to this agreement will be listed at builtonlayers.com. Posting a change does not by itself constitute member acceptance or retroactively change the terms that applied to an earlier license period. Any change remains subject to applicable notice and acceptance requirements.
